Abstract This work presents the development of an explicit/implicit particle finite element method (PFEM) for 2D modeling metal cutting processes. The purpose is to study efficiency implicit and explicit time integration schemes in terms precision, accuracy computing time. formulation marching developed, a detailed on solution steps presented. PFEM remeshing procedures insertion removal particles have been improved model multiple scales and/or space solution. detection treatment rigid tool contact are presented both, schemes. performance studied with set different two-dimensional orthogonal tests AISI 4340 steel at speeds ranging from 1 m/s up 30 m/s. It was shown that if correct selection scheme made, can decrease 40 times. allows us affirm simulations be excessive due used independently meshing process. As practical result, recommendations select given speed given. intended minimize one negative constraints pointed out by industry when using simulators.
